RADIO EQUIPMENT TO ASSIST TRAIN SHUNTING

RADIO EQUIPMENT FOR TRAIN SHUNTING

EFS manufactures radio equipment to assist shunting during train assembly (marshalling yards, station positioning).

This is communication equipment between the shunter and the driver. The TETRA standard is used for this.

This global digital standard is used for professional radio communications.

IN THE BEGINNING

An SNCF subcontractor asked us to design a secure communication system between a driver and a shunter.

CONTEXT

The equipment environment presents communication constraints (coding security) and constraints linked to SNCF infrastructures

RADIO EQUIPMENT BETWEEN SHUNTER AND DRIVER

Customer problem

An SNCF subcontractor asked us to design and manufacture radio equipment to enable safe communication between the shunter and the driver when assembling trains.

  • Meeting rail transport safety standards
  • Communication constraints: adapting to the TETRA digital network
  • Test on infrastructure currently being deployed by SNCF

EFS response

  • Use of TETRA-standard digital professional radio networks
  • Working with Sepura to optimize their software.

Advantages of the solution

  • Ensures perfect safety for personnel during shunting operations (assembling trains in marshalling yards, positioning trains in stations, etc.).
  • Secure messages: decoding by two different microcontroller.
  • Use of the equipment for another application: controlling the opening and closing of level crossings.
  • Use of the TETRA standard: excellent speech quality, high data rates and secure, encrypted links.
