EFS designs high-density DC/DC converters to power systems with maximum efficiency while optimizing available space. Perfectly suited to applications where space is limited, such as embedded equipment, mobile devices or compact industrial systems.
Our design department takes into account all constraints linked to the customer’s application, such as galvanic isolation, a wide operating range of voltage or current levels, thermal constraints, and the mechatronic integration of the solution. Optimization of power density is, of course, at the heart of the solution.
One of our high-density DC/DC converters was used to power a low-voltage (24 VDC) tethered drone from a high-voltage (900 VDC) power supply.

On-board product
The converter is fixed to the top of the drone.

Customer problem
A Grenoble-based company wanted to develop an infinitely autonomous drone powered by an electrical cable, for a wide range of applications such as aerial photography of sports competitions, music festivals. It can also be used for groundwater research, fire analysis, etc….
The drone can then operate in complete safety, with no risk of falling.
EFS response
EFS answers to design a DC/DC converter to power the drone from a high-voltage supply, which would have the advantage of considerably reducing the mass of the cable and therefore its weight.
